The dew breaker / Edwidge Danticat. This year's book is The Dew Breaker by Edwige Danticat. I really enjoyed this book a lot. The main character was a torturer in Haiti during the dictatorial 1960s. Danticats story Dew Breaker has many elements that give the book a unique way of conveying its point. After the devastating earthquake last week, I wanted to read more about Haiti, and after hearing Edwidge Danticat interviewed on NPR, I remembered I had a couple of her books on my shelf. Why does Danticat begin The Dew Breaker with Ka's father's confession and turn, near the end of the book, to the moment, some thirty years earlier, when he committed his last crime? Part 1: Danticat uses a number of different narrators to tell the story because it gives the reader several points of view. That's all i can really say about this book. Her award-wining memoir, Brother, I'm Dying, is a narrative whose threads are effortlessly woven between these two lands. Publication info: New York : Knopf : Distributed by Random House, 2004. The book's main character is a former torturer for the 1960s Duvalier regime in Haiti who hides his past while living as an immigrant in present day New York City.
